If you recently got engaged and are getting married in 2026, congratulations! You are going through such a unique time in your life, and I am truly thrilled for you. This post is for you whether you've been envisioning your wedding day since you were a young child or you're still figuring out what you want it to look like.
I've had the pleasure of documenting numerous beautiful celebrations as a wedding photographer based in Asheville, North Carolina. I've learned a lot about what makes the planning process easier and more enjoyable. From downtown receptions to vows made on a mountaintop. Here are some tips to remember as you get ready for your wedding in 2026.
1. Book Your Core Vendors Early
Photographers, videographers, planners, and venues often book 12–18 months (or more!) in advance, especially for popular spring and fall dates. Don't wait if you have your sights set on a particular vendor or location! You'll have more choices the earlier you lock them in.
Pro tip: Ask your photographer (hi, it’s me!) for vendor recommendations, they've worked with the best and can help you build a trusted team.
2. Think About What Matters Most
Before getting lost in Pinterest boards and TikTok trends, sit down with your fiancé and talk about what you really want. Is it a big celebration with all your people? An intimate mountaintop ceremony? A night of dancing under string lights?
Knowing your priorities early will help you make intentional choices and avoid unnecessary stress or expenses.
3. Create a Realistic Budget
Although 2026 may seem far off, costs are constantly fluctuating. Get the most recent prices from vendors (especially for venues, catering, and photography) and begin creating a budget that takes your priorities into account.
Remember to include:
Attire and alterations
Travel and lodging
Print or album mementos
4. Make It You
It’s easy to get caught up in tradition or trends, but your wedding should feel like you. Whether it’s writing your own vows, incorporating your favorite hymns, or bringing your dog to the ceremony (yes, please!), don’t be afraid to personalize every moment.
5. Choose a Photographer Who Gets You
When the flowers fade and the cake is gone, photos are among the few things you will always cherish. It's important to pick a photographer you click with on a personal and artistic level.
In addition to taking lovely pictures, my goal as your photographer is to document all the peaceful, happy moments you weren't aware were happening, to celebrate your love, and to make you feel comfortable and confident.
